I'm moving!

Hello livejournal! I haven't been here for ages. It's been years.I still occasionally lurk - real life just got in the way. I had been hoping to make an eventual comeback, but yeah. I'm currently in the process of importing my journal over to Dreamwidth, and that's because of one thing: Livejournal's new terms of services. I won't go into everything now, but I just don't feel comfortable holding an account here any more.

So my new home is Dreamwidth! Maybe I can make my comeback there. I hope so. I've missed all of this so much. Who knew going away to university could be so time consuming! Anyway, I'm kind of glad that I'm moving there. I can finally change my username! You can find me at throw-the-ashtray.dreamwidth.org (Press Gang usernames are the best pop culture related usernames, really).

So yeah! That's that. Bye!

As much as I want more Ben and Polly, and especially more Victoria, I kind of hope The Space Pirates has been found. It's a Robert Holmes script that I think really needs to be reevaluated. Sure it's not the greatest, but it really isn't as bad as they make it out to be (as is the way with some Doctor Who fans I suppose...)

Of course I wouldn't say no to Power of the Daleks or The Highlanders...
throw_the_ashtray: (dw - river song)
Just popping back to say yes, I'm still here! I'm right in the middle of my third year of university, so everything's become so hectic so I haven't had much free time to come online.

I did watch the Doctor Who special last night though. I'm very excited for the new Doctor, and I really do think he'll do a marvelous job. Well done Moff and co. for daring to do something a little different.

It has been a long time, hasn't it? I have excuses galore. Mainly university, and writing. In that time, vale Mary Tamm, my favourite Romana, and brave heart to Janet Fielding. Cancer, leave Who alumni alone!

Anyway, here are some icons. It's been ages since I've done those too. I didn't intend them to be so David Collings-y, not that I'm complaining...

A/N: Firstly, the title comes from a line in Regina Spektor’s song ‘On the Radio’, which is flawless. And secondly, this was originally written as a one-shot. And then a two-shot. And then it ended up way too long. So the chapter endings are sometimes really awkward. Sorry about that.

So I come back to the internet after a stressful semester at university to find out Caroline John has passed on. Such a shame. She was a wonderful actress, and brought to life a very amazing companion. I'd write something more substantial, but I don't think my brain's processing this right now.
throw_the_ashtray: (dw - donna)
Series five was some of the hardest things on television I've ever had to sit through, seeing Elisabeth Sladen so full of life and more beautiful than ever, knowing that this would be it, that Sarah Jane would be around no more. It was all leading up to the end of an iconic companion, and I almost didn't watch. It was still too raw, but I did it. I made the effort, and I'm so glad I did. Once again, the stories were top notch, and everyone was still as fantastic as normal. Mina Anwar, Ace Bhatti, Jocelyn Jee Esien, Floella Benjamin... the unsung heroes of The Sarah Jane Adventures who could hold their own up against Lis Sladen. I'm glad we had five extra series featuring Sarah Jane. As Katy Manning so rightly said, she was the quintessential Who girl, and I'm so grateful for RTD and BBC Wales for allowing a new generation to fall in love.

Series four was a very bittersweet season for me. The Sarah Jane Adventures was growing the beard. It was dark, it was fantastically plotted, and, dare I say it, better than it's parent, even though I did love Doctor Who that year. It makes me sad that, as the series was finally defining itself, it was cut tragically short. Series four was by far my favourite, and had some of the best stories in the Whoniverse (singling out Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith here...)

THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, A TRIBUTE

I would like to welcome Jenna-Louise Coleman to the Doctor Who family. I'm very open minded about how her character will turn out, and it is Steven Moffat, I have the utmost faith in him. He did create the rather awesome Lynda Day, after all.

THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, A TRIBUTE
PART THREE OF FIVE

[001-026] - Prisoner of the Judoon                        [091-112] - The Eternity Trap
[027-050] - The Mad Woman in the Attic               [113-138] - Mona Lisa's Revenge

It's no secret to anybody that I found The Sarah Jane Adventures the far superior spin-off of Doctor Who, in part due to it's almost Classic-Who feel, and in part to the outstanding performances given by everybody in the cast (especially Elisabeth Sladen, but that goes without saying...). Here is my tribute to that little series that managed to enthrall a generation, and gave them - and us - the gift of Elisabeth Sladen and Sarah Jane Smith...

So, here it is. 2012. Let us hope that this year is a better one than the last. Just in case, we need to kidnap the surviving Who cast and wrap them up in cotton wool, just to keep them safe.

2012 looks to be an awesome year, however. More Hex from Big Finish, new Tom Baker adventures, and more Jago and Litefoot, which is rather amazing and features Oscar Wilde. What else could you want?

Anyway, I made these icons at the tail end of 2011. These are only some of a large batch, the rest of which will be posted at a later date.

[60] The Sarah Jane Adventures icons.
[48] Death Note icons.
[40] Dorian Gray icons.

I'd be rather disappointed if you didn't know the news already, but here it is again, just in case.

Galaxy 4: Episode Two and The Underwater Menace: Episode Two have been found. The first new episodes to be recovered since The Daleks' Master Plan: Episode Two in 2004.
(source: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2011-12-11/doctor-who-two-long-lost-episodes-uncovered)

Yep. The lost episode count now stands at 106. It feels good to say that. 106. It excited me to no end typing that.

I love The Underwater Menace. I don't care if it's perceived as a terrible episode. It has Ben and Polly and Fish People and Jamie and Patrick Troughton. I don't think anything else matters.

I have the audio release of Galaxy Four, but haven't gotten around to listening to it. I may do so now. This is all so exciting!

I see the Radio Times is reporting leads on 'new' lost episodes too. Now that these episodes have shown up, nearly FIFTY years later, I am hopeful. Incredibly excited. (Fingers crossed for The Evil of the Daleks and/or The Daleks' Master Plan...)

(Was that as jumbled as I read it to be? If so, blame it on the excitement.)

Also, NUZZINK IN ZE VORLD CAN SHTOP ME NOW!
(It HAD to be said...)
